The film is set in one room of the house which makes it very claustrophobic, as a viewer you simply cannot escape the tension that builds to increasing climaxes every act. The script is a four-headed-monster which means this tension is stretched until it is almost a mortification. This is habit-forming writing at it's best but so exhausting.

Just Fantastic acting. Liz and Dick! What a team. This is ACTING! Imagine memorizing all those lines! And I forgot what a great actress Sandy Dennis was. RAW AND REAL and If you love Liz...don't miss Secret Ceremony. 10/10

wow! i'd never seen these two in action before, but i now know why they made such an impact in hollywood back in its heyday. this movie was phenomenally well acted by taylor/burton. it's inspired me to watch more films with the two of them (i think there are 11 in total). it's much more captivating than i thought it would be. i was quite drawn in, moreso to the performances than to the screenplay.

Very famous movie.. It being way before my time I only watched it so I would understand the title...WoW Elizabeth Taylor was amazing. About the same time I watched this I also watched Cat on a hot tin roof w/her and Paul Newman. WoW again.. Two superb movies that in my opinion will never be too old to be worth watching and loving.

Elizabeth Taylor is so good in this. Amazing movie. Amazing acting. Had a wonderful plot. Surprisingly it wasn't that boring. The people in it are crazy though. I would say its a MUST SEE!

Among the eleven movies Burton and Taylor made together, this is the best. Brilliant writing complements superlative acting. Bouquets all around specially to Taylor (in her best work ever).

I will get this out of the way and say that I found the screenplay (which i believe pretty much followed Albee's original) at times to be overly hysterical and naive though that could be due to the decade it was written in. It, at times lost the emotional essence of the characters in favour of over intellectualising the dynamic between George and Martha That said the premise for it (and i can't say too much here without spoiling it) and the title itself is a brilliant insight into the couples desperation to use whatever warped survival mechanisms they can to remain together and 'sane' without having to look at the true reality of their relationship and the part they play in the dysfunctional dynamic of it. Though they gain a kind of succour from their sado-masochistic roles, there is still a loss that permeates deeply into both their lives and no matter how twisted the games escalate between them they cannot escape the reality of this The subject matter of how they do this does not become fully apparent until the final scene and in it the full extent of the fantasy that holds their tenuous relationship together is revealed.

I saw this movie a time ago, but before that I read the book. Sure taylor and burton are exciting, but they are nothing compared to the original.
