A powerful story of the atrocities of a world gone crazy. Outstanding performance by Sam Waterston and a heart-wrenching portrayal from Dr. Haing S. Ngor. Great performances by the rest of the main actors. The script is brilliant, the cinematography is beautiful. Once seeing this film, you will never forget it..I have seen it several times and I highly recommend it... 10/10 P.S. Sadly, Ngor was shot and killed in 1996 (17 yrs after coming to America). He survived the Killing Fields in real life, but died in America. How ironic is that?

I saw this in theatres when it was first released and have re-watched quite a few times. Usually i can pick apart a film (bad storyline, dialogue, soundtrack, predictable, etc.) - i could find no fault with this film. Great cast, storyline (based on a true story), soundtrack, cinematography, etc. Exceptional film thru and thru. p.s.- THIS is the way journalism should be.

this movie is nothing but a 10/10, and has been since the very first time I watched it back in the very early 80's. i am amazed at the human spirit to survive, and it is brilliantly shown in this stunning picture of mankinds terrible nature toward those they don't approve of, or don't respect, and oft times just don't think they are good enough. You will find yourself crying, feeling disturbed, praying, and ultimately being thankful you have not had to live through this atrocity. 10/10

I watched this movie in Cambodia with few of my local friends. I could totally see tears in their eyes. Not that I enjoyed this movie even a bit but it's travesty which is sadly true. I watched it again and give 10/10 for excellent depiction of what happened. This movie doesn't fall short justifying pain in every Cambodian hearts. I wish this country all the best. They seriously deserve a bright future.

I just got back from a week in Cambodia and was in Phnom Penh and saw the S21 prison and Choeung Ek execution grounds. Hence, I guess that's why I looked this up and am glad I did. It's truly horrifying and disgusting what humans sometimes do to one another. Moving on, this movie puts faces to the suffering brought on by the Khmer Rouge. Amidst this, the humanity of a friendship between journalist Sydney Schanberg and his guide Dith Pran is explored - a true story. I believe this movie never got it's due. It's a war movie, but not from a soldier's perspective and there are no real "battle" scenes. Also, a lot of it is from Cambodian Dith Pran's point-of-view. It is well-shot and intelligently written and directed. I highly recommend a viewing (I can't believe how few reviews are here for this). Also, possibly read up on the Khmer Rouge on Wikipedia if unfamiliar with their tyranny before watching.
